“All Scripture is God-breathed”: a Structural Analysis of 2 Tim. 3:16 and Surrounding Verses

This essay can be accessed by clicking on the link below.

In the essay I have tried to show that the expression in 2 Tim. 3:15 “through faith in Christ Jesus”, which  wonderfully applies to our salvation, actually has also a wider remit covering the correct use of “the holy scriptures which are able to make one wise unto salvation”, and, further, that the expression applies also to “all God-breathed scripture” and to the role of that scripture in producing righteousness in v. 16. In order to do this, I have appealed to details of the Greek text and to structural considerations. Finally, I have tried to set Paul’s teaching here within the wider context of 2 Tim. Ch. 3 and also (very briefly!) to inter-textual considerations relating to OT wisdom literature.

I hope you will find this study interesting, and I look forward to comments and corrections.
