This article is Part 1 of what I hope will be a two part article looking at 1 Timothy 2:1-15 – a section of Scripture which includes the topics of praying for our rulers and the role of women- including one of the places where Paul forbids the teaching role to women and enjoins “silence” or quietness upon them.
Although the section on “praying for rulers” precedes the section on the role of women, I am looking at these two sections in reverse order – so this article is about the role of women, and then in the second article, I hope to “work backwards” to the praying for rulers section and also I hope to see to what extent the two sections – or more specifically 1 Tim. 2:1-12 – can be treated as a coherent structural unity.
I hope you will find this article interesting. Please let me know your thoughts, and any corrections and/or additions that would help to improve the article.
